Anita Heiss

Biography

Dr Anita Heiss is a multi award-winning author, academic, presenter and commentator, and proud member of the Wiradjuri nation of central NSW.

Anita has written nonfiction, fiction, poetry, social commentary, and travel articles. An advocate for Indigenous education, she is a Lifetime Ambassador of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and a finalist in the 2012 Human Rights Awards and the 2013 Australian of the Year Awards.

Anita has performed her works across Australia and internationally in Spain, Austria, the USA, Canada, Fiji, Japan, New Zealand, China, France, the UK, Tahiti and New Caledonia. She has also been published widely in journals, anthologies and on-line.

She currently lives in Brisbane where she is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Sydney, and volunteers her time as a Books in Homes Ambassador.
