Born in Glasgow, Ryan O’Neill went on to traverse the world, having lived in Africa, Asia and Europe before settling in Newcastle, Australia, with his wife and two daughters. Ryan currently teaches at the University of Newcastle. His fiction has appeared in several prints, such as The Best Australian Stories, The Sleepers Almanac, Meanjin and more.
Ryan’s work has won the Hal Porter and Roland Robinson awards, and has been shortlisted for the Queensland Premier’s Steele Rudd Award and the Age Short-Story prize. His works include The Weight of a Human Heart and Their Brilliant Careers, which has been shortlisted for the Miles Franklin award.
