Daniel Oakman currently works as an historian at the Australian National University. In 2018, he published the first biography of the legendary Australian cyclist and politician, Sir Hubert “Oppy” Opperman. His first book, Facing Asia: a History of the Colombo Plan, was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s History Awards. He has curated exhibitions about bikes, cars, cities and urban design; including Freewheeling, a ground-breaking travelling exhibition on cycling in Australia.
He lives in Canberra with his partner Cecilie and a dog called Gilbert.
