Tickets – Where?

A $2 booking fee, plus a small credit card processing fee applies for each transaction.

If you require assistance purchasing your tickets online, staff at any of our 17 branches locations will be happy to help you with your credit card transaction (sorry not EFT or cash in community branches).

Cash and EFT:

Tickets can be booked and paid with cash or EFTPOS only at Administration, Geelong Library & Heritage Centre: Level 4, 51 Little Malop Street, Geelong, Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm

Door sales:

Tickets will be available in the Festival box office over the festival weekend, if not already sold out

Earlybird Ticket Discount

Earlybird discounted tickets prices are available from 6pm, 19 September 2019 until 9am, 4 October 2019

Festival Pass

The Festival Pass allows entry into any six day sessions of your choice for the price of five.

Please note that this does not include Workshops, Special (catered) Events, Children’s sessions

Tickets – what else?

Can I get a refund?

We do not provide refunds, however you can exchange your ticket for another event when logged into your account.

Please note the ability to swap your sessions will cease 24 hours before the festival commences and 1 week before for the workshops.

In the event of a presenter cancellation, you will be contacted directly by the Word for Word team via email and directed to exchange your ticket for another session.

I didn’t get a confirmation email / tickets?

First, check your junk mail to see if it’s there.  If you suspect you may have accidentally put in an incorrect email address, contact this email link for help

Is there allocated seating?

No. Seating is on a first-in, best-seated arrangement. Doors will open about 10 minutes before the event.  If you have special accessibility needs, please contact this email link for assistance or call (03) 4201 0500

How do I exchange my ticket?

Go into your account. Look at your ticket list. Select the ticket you would like to exchange then click “exchange”. You will then be directed to choose another event.

Please take care when exchanging your tickets that you are not booking concurrent sessions (unless you meant to do so!).

Friends of the Library?

Friends of Geelong Regional Libraries are eligible to receive a 20% discount on Word for Word Tickets.

Please note that no further discounts apply, so the Friends discount does not apply to the already heavily discounted Festival Pass.

Friends of the Library will be contacted directly with instructions on how to redeem the discount.

Our workshops cater to a wide range of interests and topics.  Participants will be contacted by email if they need to bring anything to their workshop.

Printed programs are available at all 17 Geelong Regional Library branches and two mobile library branches. If you or your group would like programs to hand out please contact us at and we will be happy to help.

Please contact Word for Word at this email link. Volunteering at the Word for Word Festival is highly sort-after and takes place in a public library space. Therefore volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children Check, complete a unique Police Check and attend a 1.5 hour induction session. Our volunteers are a very important part of the festival.

How do I get there?

Public Transport

The Geelong Library is just a 500-metre stroll from the Geelong Railway Station (V-Line and public bus station) and 5 minutes from the Moorabool Street bus stop, so consider leaving your car at a railway station or a bus stop closer to home

Can I buy the books?

Yes! Dymocks will have a pop-up shop set up on the ground floor of the library for across the Word for Word Festival weekend stocking all the books featured at the festival and more titles from featured authors.

Will the author sign my book?

You will have the opportunity to meet the author and have them sign your book immediately following each event

Are there any free events?

Yes, on Sunday 17 November at 3pm will be the public launch of Bronze Stories in Johnstone Park.  See program for details

Are there any Children’s events?

This year sees the first dedicated children’s stream with three sessions running on Sunday 17 November on the Level 1 Activity Room at Geelong Library & Heritage Centre. The accompanying adult and children under 5 are free. See the program for details

Lost Property
